Our Story

Since our founding in 2001, Mehri & Skalet has used the law to advance our clients’ interests and pioneer mission-driven cases. Our attorneys handle civil rights and employment class actions; public nuisance claims on behalf of school districts; whistleblower suits alleging fraud against the government, financial markets, investors, and consumers; and cases involving corporate abuse, as well as individual cases with broad impact.

Long Held Experience, Strong Partnerships

Mehri & Skalet’s attorneys bring decades of experience in litigation and issue advocacy, backed by strong ties to national nonprofits and civil rights, whistleblower, and consumer advocacy organizations. Our attorneys have co-counseled matters with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, the National Women’s Law Center, A Better Balance, Hanford Challenge, the AARP Foundation, and the Center for Science in the Public Interest. We have also collaborated on projects with the NAACP, the National Council of Women’s Organizations, the Center for Auto Safety, and Whistleblowers of America.

A Commitment to Service

Our team members believe in service. We’ve founded new nonprofit organizations, served on nonprofit boards, and volunteered our time. Cyrus Mehri, Mehri & Skalet’s founding partner, also co-founded the Fritz Pollard Alliance and the Iranian American Legal Defense Fund. Managing partner Ellen Eardley serves on the board of Urban Harvest STL, working to build a more equitable and resilient food system across St. Louis. And our team volunteers together at Miriam’s Kitchen to help end chronic homelessness in the D.C. area.

At Mehri & Skalet, service is central to who we are — from founding nonprofit organizations to serving on boards to giving back to the communities we serve.

Impact Beyond the Courtroom

Over the years, our firm and the class action settlements we’ve negotiated have directed millions of dollars to nonprofits advancing the common good. One of our race discrimination class settlements led to the creation of the groundbreaking Norflet Progress Fund, which has donated more than $15 million to organizations serving Black communities.

Our Mehri & Skalet Find Justice Fellowship furthers this mission by welcoming promising new attorneys to work with us for two years, with the opportunity to spend three months working full-time for a social justice, issue advocacy, or direct services nonprofit.

We also give back to the broader legal community by participating in legal organizations, presenting at conferences, and teaching throughout classrooms.

Mehri & Skalet prides itself on pursuing justice through service, partnership, and an unwavering commitment to a world where justice truly is for all.
