Pursuant to the MAP-21 (Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century) Act, employees and contractors who work for an automobile manufacturer, parts supplier, or dealership are protected from retaliation if they:

  • Publicly expose automobile safety issues;
  • Refuse to participate in activities that they believe will lead to automobile safety issues;
    and/or
  • Alert the government about such issues.

Employees and contractors who experience illegal retaliation are entitled to reinstatement of their jobs with back pay, as well as compensatory damages and payment of their attorneys’ fees.
