According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, over 300 million people use our Nation’s transportation system every day. In 2013, there were just over 33 thousand passenger fatalities and over 2.3 million injuries recorded for all modes of transportation.
Due to the importance of travel and transportation, Congress has enacted several laws intended to protect employees who report known or suspected violations of safety and/or security standards. Although there may be overlap in some circumstances, each law focuses solely on the type of transportation it covers and specifies the types of employee activities that may be protected.
