Verizon Overcharges

In 2002 the skilled Washington DC Lawyers at M&S, along with co-counsel, filed suit against Verizon New Jersey Inc. for overcharges on small businesses on their telephone service, in violation of the tariff rates. The overcharge was on rately $1.01 per month, but the extent and duration of this practice had enormous costs to New Jersey small businesses.

Under the settlement Verizon agreed to reimburse identified class members $1.65 for each improper $1.01 charge and a procedure was established for claims to be made for any customers who claimed they were overcharged but could not be identified from Verizon’s records. The settlement provided compensation for approximately 45,000 accounts and the value of payments to class members was approximately $1,725,000.
