M&S and co-counsel represent plaintiffs and a putative class of thousands of African American applicants who were denied employment at the Cook County Jail. They challenge the Cook County Sheriff Office’s multistep process for selecting correctional officers. The plaintiffs claim that the process discriminatorily weeds out African American applicants, who constitute a much larger percentage of the applicant pools than of the persons selected for employment. The case is filed in federal court in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. To learn more about the proposed class action, see the complaint here.
