Following SCOTUS Overturning Affirmative Action, Civil Rights Experts Urge a Recommitment to DEI & Belonging Initiatives

Mehri & Skalet civil rights attorneys Ellen Eardley and Cyrus Mehri encourage leaders to join them in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s damaging ruling.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 29, 2023) — The following is a statement from civil rights Attorneys Ellen Eardley & Cyrus Mehri at Mehri & Skalet, PLLC, in response to the Supreme Court striking down Affirmative Action.

“We read today’s SCOTUS Affirmative Action decision with sadness, but we do not view it as putting an end to our important work. We will continue to take into account our nation’s racist history and the structural inequities it produces, and we will fight to overcome it. At Mehri & Skalet, we hold firm to our values of diversity, inclusion, and belonging and our commitment to civil rights in the workplace. Our litigation practice will continue to support workers who face discrimination, harassment, exclusion, and retaliation. And, our consulting practice will continue to support CEOs and other courageous leaders who are implementing effective initiatives to enhance diversity, inclusion, and belonging in their organizations. From the Rooney Rule to equity audits, we believe in ensuring a fair process and a respectful and inclusive workplace for all. Learning and working together is critical to the success of our multiracial democracy.”
