Litigation Attorney - Position Open
Mehri & Skalet, PLLC (“M&S”) has an immediate opening for a Litigation Attorney.
The Washington, D.C. law firm of Mehri & Skalet, PLLC (“M&S”) seeks a litigation attorney with at least 3 years of litigation experience. M&S represents plaintiffs – primarily employees, unions, consumers, investors, and nonprofits – in complex litigation under federal and state law. The firm investigates and litigates class action cases challenging a variety of abuses, including civil rights, wage and hour, employment discrimination, employee benefits, fair housing, False Claims Act, and consumer protection violations. The litigation attorney will work primarily on a series of cases against the federal government involving wage and hour disputes. In addition to the wage and hour cases, the attorney may handle other claims on behalf of unions and employees involving employee discipline, employment discrimination, or a variety of other claims. The attorney will be responsible for handling all aspects of the preparations leading up to arbitration as well as the hearings themselves. The attorney will work directly with clients and other attorneys in the firm often in a team environment. The position involves travel throughout the United States.
Experience and Qualifications
Candidates should have litigation experience and be motivated and possess the ability to work well as part of a team but also be energetic self-starters with initiative. The position requires strong research and writing skills, the ability to communicate effectively with clients, a creative approach to litigation, a commitment to social justice, and an interest in representing employees and unions. Relevant prior work experience includes litigation, trial/arbitration experience, or prior involvement with a labor or public interest organization.

Paralegal Position Open
Mehri & Skalet, PLLC (“M&S”) has immediate openings for a full-time paralegal position.
M&S is a public-spirited law firm focusing on civil rights, employment law, and consumer protection issues. Paralegals at M&S are front-line participants in the firm’s creative class action litigation practice and work closely with attorneys, clients, witnesses and the firm’s many allies in the civil rights and social justice communities.
Paralegals at M&S field intake calls from potential clients, conduct interviews with witnesses or clients, and draft affidavits for the firm’s active cases. Paralegals also assist in online and documentary research and prepare graphs, charts and other explanatory materials for cases in various stages of investigation or litigation.
Other duties include managing case files; editing and formatting documents and court filings; organizing materials for attorneys; helping attorneys with document review and deposition preparation; offering general office support, as needed; and organizing media and public advocacy projects like press conferences, meetings and community outreach work.

Requirements for Paralegal Position
This position requires a bachelor’s degree, two to three years’ experience working at a law firm, and superior organization skills. Candidates should be highly motivated and self-starting; learn quickly; work well independently and on a team; and be comfortable managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Candidates must also be proficient with computer systems, word processing, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet research, and other related information technologies.
Moderate knowledge of legal proceedings, LexisNexis, Microsoft Access, or iConect (or other legal document management systems) is a plus. Individuals with HTML knowledge or other website maintenance skills will be given special consideration for this position.
A two-year commitment to the law firm is preferred.
