M&S represents the non-profit group U.S. Chamber Watch in its complaint to the IRS alleging serious tax violations by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.  Chamber Watch promotes greater transparency and accountability in American political processes by shedding light on the largest private interest lobbyist in America, the U.S. Chamber.

In an open letter to the IRS commissioner filed by Mehri & Skalet on behalf of Chamber Watch, the complaint alleges that over $18 million meant for charitable purposes was funneled from the AIG-affiliated Starr Foundation to the U.S. Chamber, violating laws regarding tax exemptions and charitable donations.  The complaint urges the IRS to undertake a thorough investigation and to impose penalties and interest.
